Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a program for middle school students, grades 6-8. Students at participating schools read books from a list established by the North Carolina Battle of the Books committee, and then compete in quiz-bowl-style tournaments to test their knowledge of these books.
The purpose of the Battle of the Books is to encourage reading by all students at Reidsville Middle School. Although sponsored by the AIG Department, the competition is open to all Reidsville Middle School students who choose to participate. The game format creates interest and excitement in reading while exposing students to a variety of literary styles. "The goal is to read, not necessarily to win!" (NCSLMA)
The competition will be held at Rockingham County Schools Central Office on Date To Be Announced.

RCMS Advocacy Team
Mission:
The Rockingham County Middle School Advocacy Team strives to promote sensitivity, understanding, and acceptance of people with disabilities. The Advocacy Team also promotes social interaction and friendship building among students with and without disabilities.
Membership:
Seventh and eighth grade students who are interested in becoming advocates must submit an application . Applications must be signed by a teacher and parent. Students are selected according to demonstrated skills, desire to belong, and commitment to advocating for the rights and needs of students with significant disabilities. Members must also be responsible and able to keep up with missed assignments.
Requirements:
Upon selection, advocates meet approximately twice per week for thirty minutes with students in the school's self-contained exceptional children's class. Advocates must independently follow a monthly schedule and make arrangements to complete any missed classwork. Students are also responsible for alerting staff when they have a conflict with their scheduled advocacy session.
Activities:
In addition to regularly scheduled interaction with students with significant disabilities, Advocacy Team members also participate in the following:
-
Volunteers for Special Olympics
-
Field Trips
-
Disability Awareness Week

Fellowship of Christian Athletes
FCA is for everyone and not just for athletes. It is a time to meet new friends, do activities, play games, have a snack, and learn more about supporting our community through service. FCA focuses on engaging, equipping and empowering students to unite, inspire and change the world through the gospel.

Student Council
The Student Council gives the student body input into decisions affecting the students and sets up activities for the school. Officers and home base representatives learn Robert's Rules of Order as they participate.

Rock'n Robotz
The Rockingham County Middle School Rock’n Robotz is a First Lego League Robotics Club. Participants follow core values, work cooperatively and diligently and, most of all, have fun! Competitions start in November. A team of no more than 10 students researches a problem, comes up with a solution, and then builds and programs a robot to complete missions on a mat with Lego structures. Programs used to work with the robots are Mindstorm NXT 2.0 and EV3. All team members must be willing to participate in fundraising since the average cost per team is about $400.
